Safe Winter Driving Tips PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 07 January 2010 16:29

As the winter season is upon us, Springboro VFD wants everyone to drive safe this season. So here are some Safe Winter Driving Tips.

1.  If you must drive, clear the ice and snow from your vehicle, all windows and windshield wipers. Be sure the windshield washer reservoir is adequately filled with a freeze-resistant cleaning solution.

2.  Drive slowly. Even if your vehicle has good traction in ice and snow, other drivers will be traveling cautiously. Don't distrupt the flow of traffic by driving faster than everyone else.

3. Drive with your headlights on.

4. Don't get overconfident with four-wheel drive. It won't help you stop any faster.

5. Winter road conditions often result in longer stopping distances. Give yourself room. If you have anti-lock brakes, press the pedal down firmly and hold it. If you don't have anti-lock brakes, gently pump the pedal.

6. Slow down when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges or shady spots. These all have potential to develop black ice.

7. Avoid abrupt actions while steering, braking or accelerating to lessen your chance of losing control.

8. Look farther ahead in traffic. Actions by other drivers will alert you to problems and give you extra reaction time.

9. Trucks take longer to stop. Don't cut in front of them.

10. Avoid using cruise control or overdrive. Don't let your car make a bad decision for you.

Please take these safe driving tips serious. Hope you all drive safe.

There is now a page just for the SVFD members to get information on upcoming training or events. This page is found under the "About" tab and is labeled "Firefighter Information". We will use this page as a bulletin board to get information out to the members. Check it often to see what is planned for fire/EMS practice, unscheduled meetings, or to see what the Chief wants to get out to the members.

Springboro VFD opens another chapter in patient care PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:28

On Thursday August 14, 2008 the Springboro Volunteer Fire Department will begin our Ambulance transport service. Springboro currently has fifteen Department of Health EMS personnel and on August 12th we received our DOH license for our Ambulance. Ambulance memberships are currently being accepted. If you have a membership to another department and would like to utilize our service, we will honor that membership for this year.

This has been a two year journey to get where we are. In 2006 we held an EMT class in Springboro and gained six EMTs out of that class. In August of 2007 we began running mutual aid to Albion and the Albion Fire Department has been instrumental in getting our new EMTs the training that they need by working with them and allowing them to "crew" their ambulance. Our EMTs have responded to over 300 EMS calls with Albion and another 100 calls in our own area.

With this new chapter comes an end to a relationship that has benefited our community greatly. Fellows Club Ambulance Service has transported our citizens in the past and we would like to thank them for their tireless work. We also would like to ask them for their support in our new venture.
